The Wharton African Student's Association (WASA) proudly invites you to embark on an exciting journey this October, filled with breathtaking landscapes, important history and vibrant culture, as we head to Cape Town & Johannesburg in the beautiful Rainbow Nation - South Africa! 


A country that certainly promises bucket-list experiences! From views atop the majestic Table Mountain to the buzzing nightlife along Kloof Street, from tasting world-class locally made wines paired with cheese in the scenic Winelands, to getting up close with lions and giraffes on a safari experience, theres something awesome planned for each day! 


WASA can't wait to share this adventure with you and host you on the motherland!

Passport Validity: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months after intended date of departure and must have a free page for visa stamps


Is a Visa needed to enter South Africa?: Travelers must check the list of visa exempt countries to see if they need to apply for visas or are visa exempt if visiting SA for a period of 30 days or less. If your country is not listed, you will need to apply for a visa either online or through a South African embassy or consulate near you. 


Yellow fever vaccination certificate is needed for South Africa: A Yellow fever vaccination is required on arrival into South Africa for travelers aged 9 months and older. The vaccination requirement is for the protection against Yellow Fever and you could be denied entry without it. Travelers will be required to ensure they have this full vaccination and certificate at least 10 days prior to departure.


Take note of the processing fees : When proceeding to payment, please expect to see a participant card processing fee if you choose to pay by credit or debit card. 


Create an account to manage your package: When checking out, you should check the box next to "Create an account to manage your booking online." This will allow you to edit, adjust your trip, and select add-ons at a later date.


Mandatory Travel Insurance: Travel Insurance is mandatory for trips with Enroute54. Travelers will need to purchase appropriate travel insurance cover before traveling to South Africa. Please ensure that you obtain comprehensive travel insurance which will cover all overseas medical costs, including medical repatriation/evacuation, etc., and also cover the full cost of your trip, flights and any overstay/additional expense due to incident or illness, etc. that may arise.


Mosquito Repellant & Malaria Tablets: There are mosquitoes in South Africa, malaria risk is present throughout the year, but highest from September to May inclusive. Malaria precautions are essential and avoid mosquito bites by covering up with clothing such as long sleeves and long trousers especially after sunset, using insect repellents on exposed skin and, when necessary. It is strongly recommended to seek medical advice about purchasing suitable antimalarial tablets. Be sure to pack some appropriate mosquito repellant spray or cream.


Currency used in South Africa: The official South African currency is the Rand-ZAR. We advise that travelers keep up with conversion rates for South Africa. Most establishments such as restaurants, clubs and hotels accept debit and credit cards. Some establishments and ride-share apps accept cards only. We would advise that you also carry some cash in smaller notes.


Getting Around Easily: Travelers who wish to explore independently outside of the itinerary can get around easily using the Uber or Bolt apps in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. Guests can also either hire private cars or use local taxis.

Arrival in Johannesburg & Transfer to Pilanesberg

Touch down in the vibrant city of Johannesburg at O.R.Tambo airport and hop on a scheduled shuttle transfer to the Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge, located within Pilanesberg National Park. Enjoy a scenic drive through South Africa’s diverse landscape as you journey to your lodge, where a world of wildlife awaits.

Pilanesberg Game Drive & Boma Dinner

Embark on an exhilarating early morning game drive through Pilanesberg National Park, where you'll encounter the BIG 5 - lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards & rhinos in their natural habitat, you will also have the opportunity to join an evening game drive if you would like.  As the sun sets, participate in a fun and engaging drumming and dancing session before you savour a traditional dinner under the stars enjoying delicious local grilled cuisine

Arrival in Joburg & Networking Evening

On our way back to Jo’burg, we’ll make a stop at the Lesedi Cultural Village a multi-sensory Ndebele cultural experience ending with a traditional dance celebration.  After your visit, you’ll head to the city to check into your hotel, settle in and rest for an evening networking event where you will enjoy lively conversations and shared experiences with fellow attendees.

Johannesburg & Soweto | History, Culture & Community

Today, we dive into the rich and profound history of Johannesburg with a city tour that includes striking street art and the thought-provoking exhibits at the Apartheid Museum. After a glimpse of the legendary FNB Stadium, we head into Soweto guided by locals from the townships, and stopping at iconic landmarks like the Hector Pieterson Museum and Nelson Mandela's Home. We will take a walk down Vilhakazi Street, with its buzzing street performers and crafts market, where we will have a tasty traditional lunch before heading to learn more at the Klipton informal settlement.

Cape Town, Optional Activities & Welcome Dinner w/ Drumming Class

Start the day with an early morning direct flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town , and transfer to our 4 star hotel right in the heart of the Central Business District and within close proximity to the vibrant Long Street & Kloof Street! Next, prepare for a  fun filled evening with an interactive South African cultural dinner experience with interactive drumming, singing, dancing and face painting! 


Optional | Quad Biking: Prepare for an adrenaline pumping quad biking adventure on the sand dunes. Feel the rush as you navigate the shifting sands, conquer challenging terrain, and enjoy breathtaking views of the landscape. Return back to the hotel in time for dinner. 


Optional | Robben Island: Head to the ever popular V&A waterfront where you can take a ferry to the famous Robben Island: The incarceration place of Nelson Mandela and other anti-apartheid activists. Return back to the hotel in time for dinner.

Cape Town City, V&A Waterfront,Table Mountain & Optional Robben Island

Start the day off in the heart of Cape Town with a guided city tour that takes you to the famous colourful neighbourhood of Bo Kaap and shares historical highlights of the city, before exploring the V&A Waterfront for lunch! 

In the afternoon, we board a cable car to ascend the grand Table Mountain via fast-track access and enjoy truly breathtaking scenery of the city, including views of Lions Head and Camps Bay! 

Weather permitting, we can stay to experience the glorious sunset with drinks, before heading back to ground level.

Franschhoek Winelands Day & Sunset Farewell Dinner

Today, we're off for an opulent and sophisticated day of wine-tasting, cheese boards, chocolate pairing and learning about various grapes and ageing processes! Enjoy a sensory journey that highlights the unique flavors of exquisite wines and culinary delights in South Africa's premier wine region!  To close off an unforgettable trip, we head to the scenic Camps Bays seaside for a curated sunset dinner and a celebratory toast from our WASA hosts.

Last Errands & Departure

All too soon, we've come to the last day of our South African travels. Make the most of your last day by grabbing any last-minute souvenirs and bid farewell to the beautiful city of Cape Town.  We hope to welcome you back to the continent again soon!
