Touch down in Accra at Accra International Airport, where you will be met and welcomed by your Enroute54 host before transferring to the hotel to check in, freshen up and settle in.
Later that evening, the group will come together for a welcome dinner to officially kick off the trip, with an option to head out afterwards or enjoy a restful night at the hotel.
PS: The Welcome Dinner will begin at 7:00 PM. To ensure you have enough time to settle in, and prepare for the evening, we recommend selecting a flight that arrives in Accra well in advance of the dinner.
We will kick off the day with a late-morning start and head out to explore Accra with a knowledgeable local guide who knows the city inside and out. The tour includes a drive through some of Accra’s most iconic spots; from Accra's Central Market, Makola, to the historic fishing community of Jamestown to the powerful Kwame Nkrumah Memorial and the symbolic Black Star Square. You will get a real feel of the city’s rich history, culture, and energy.
Wrap up this experience with a lively drumming class experience along with some leisurely shopping at the Arts Centre, where you can support local artisans and find one-of-a-kind artefacts. To cap off this unforgettable introduction to Ghanaian culture, we will explore the vibrant flavors of West African cuisine at a local favourite lunch spot.
We continue our Ghanaian adventure with an optional night out at Afrofuture, arguably one of the city's key December highlights where culture meets great music.
Spend the day with a local Ghanaian family for a hands-on dive into Ghanaian culture and tradition. Learn the art of batik making and the meaning behind Adinkra symbols, pick up a few local phrases, and join in storytelling, drumming and dancing. This is a day to take part, not just observe.
Next, head into the kitchen for a guided cooking session before sitting down to a traditional lunch with your hosts. You will leave with your own handmade batik piece, a few new skills and probably a dance move or two.
Afterwards, we return to the hotel to unwind and close out the day. For anyone still ready for more, the optional AfroFuture experience continues with Day 2 of the festival, bringing another night of music, style and high energy.
Today kicks off with a drive to the beautiful Central region of Ghana, where we start our adventure at the Kakum National Park, renowned for its dense rainforest and iconic canopy walkway. Here, you’ll embark on a guided light hike and enjoy the thrilling canopy walk experience, exploring the forest from above.
After experiencing the natural beauty of Kakum, our day continues at the UNESCO Heritage Site Elmina Castle, where you will explore the powerful history of the transatlantic slave trade. You’ll hear the stories of the captured Africans, their imprisonment, and their eventual forced departure through the infamous Door of No Return.
After our guided tour of the castle, we'll head to a nearby resort for a tasty lunch by the beach, before our drive back to Accra.
This day begins at a much slower pace. Sleep in, recharge, enjoy the day at your leisure or explore independently.
As evening approaches, it is time to dress up and come together for a special New Year’s Eve dinner at Skybar, one of Accra’s standout rooftop restaurant & bar with good food, great company and the countdown officially underway.
We continue our New Years Eve celebration with an optional night out at Polo Beach Club, one of Accra’s most popular beachfront spots, known for its open air setting, music, and spectacular fireworks show as the city counts down to the New Year.
Start the new year at your own pace. Sleep in, take it easy and enjoy a full day to rest, recover or explore Accra independently.
For those ready to get back out, a selection of optional activities will be available to book, giving you the freedom to shape the first day of the year your way.
Make the most of your last day by grabbing any last-minute souvenirs or local crafts & transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
Farewell, and we hope to welcome you back to the continent again soon!
Safe travels!
