Important Information

Flights:  We have access to exclusive discounted flights from any destinations to join our group trips! Get in touch with us for a discounted flight quote from your departure city to join this trip!

Passport Validity: Passports must be valid for a minimum of 6 months after intended date of departure and must have a minimum of 3 free pages for visa stamps.

Is a Visa needed to enter South Africa?: Travelers must check the list of visa exempt countries to see if they need to apply for visas or are visa exempt if visiting SA for a period of 30 days or less. If your country is not listed, it means you will need to apply for a visa.

Yellow fever vaccination certificate is needed for South Africa: A Yellow fever vaccination is required on arrival into South Africa for travelers aged 9 months and older, only if you are travelling from or transiting through a yellow-fever risk country for more than 12 hours. The vaccination requirement is for the protection against Yellow Fever, and you could be denied entry without it. Travelers will need to ensure they have this full vaccination and certificate at least 10 days prior to departure.

Mandatory Travel Insurance: Travel Insurance is mandatory for trips with Enroute54. Travelers will need to purchase appropriate travel insurance cover before traveling to South Africa. Please ensure that you obtain comprehensive travel insurance which will cover all overseas medical costs, including medical repatriation/evacuation, etc., and also cover the full cost of your trip, flights and any overstay/additional expense due to incident or illness, etc. that may arise.

Mosquito Repellant & Malaria Tablets: There are mosquitoes in South Africa, Malaria risk is present throughout the year, but highest from September to May inclusive. Malaria precautions are essential and avoid mosquito bites by covering up with clothing such as long sleeves and long trousers especially after sunset, using insect repellents on exposed skin and, when necessary. It is strongly recommended to seek medical advice about purchasing suitable antimalarial tablets. Be sure to pack some appropriate mosquito repellant spray or cream.

Currency used in South Africa: The official South African currency is the Rand-ZAR. We advise that travelers keep up with conversion rates for South Africa, as these change frequently. Although most restaurants, clubs and hotels accept debit and credit cards, cash is definitely the best option to pay for things whenever possible. We would advise that you carry some cash in small notes to make any personal purchases and payments to avoid missing out on purchases where vendors do not accept credit/debit card payments.

Getting Around Easily: Travelers who wish to explore independently outside of the itinerary can get around easily using the Uber and Bolt apps in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. Guests can also either hire private cars or use local taxis or buses.

A comprehensive travel guide brochure with detailed information on what to expect and everything there is to know about travelling in South Africa will be shared with all confirmed travelers.
